Last Day. Sad Day.

Today was fun yet bitter sweet. I think we were all ready to bring this week to a close. GAETI 2018 was super fast but I really wish it was two weeks. I want more time to perfect my art project but it turned out pretty well. The morning session with Jullian Smart on Character/Positive Behavior was well. She have us some strategies I would implement along with PBIS. We were pressed for time so we had to eat during art. To our surprise Dr. Bracey's department head, I forgot his name, paid for our lunch. For some reason free food tastes better. After finishing up our art project it was time to present. I must say everyone did an excellent job. I was fun to watch and participate and be students. Sometime we forget to enjoy the moment. So that's what I will do for the 2018-2019 school year. Be great and enjoy the moments. So good bye for now.

New Strategies

I learned so much today. We were introduced to some new assessment tools and vocabulary strategies. Quizziz will be the replacement for Kahoot!. I love that it is self paced yet the competitiveness is still there. My students get to rowdy when we play Kahoot!. I have to warn my neighboring teachers about the noise level. The afternoon session was really good. The presenters gave us several strategies I think my students will love. My favorite was Word Sneak. The idea of getting the kids talking and using the words is awesome. I can't wait to try this upcoming school year.

Family Tree

Today we got a change to research our family. Although I wasn't able to look at the U.S. Census from my free account, DeeDee Baldwin was nice enough to find my grandfather with his parents and siblings in the 1940 census. I thought that was awesome. Ok, so let me backup. This morning we two sessions on Microsoft Publisher and Fake News. Both session were great. I've learned some quick tips and will use those to create my classroom rules and expectations posters. I am nervous that I will not be able to finish my art project or that I will finish but not at the quality I desire. I will probably work through lunch tomorrow.

Coding

Today was a little fast past. Dr. Lee started the day with Adobe Spark which was fun. Spark is easy to use and free. Everybody enjoyed creating videos by adding images, narration, and audio. After lunch we had a presentation on 3D printing which is something I would love to do with my students. I just have to figure out where I can get money to purchase one. Our time was short in art. Everybody was able to prime their boards and pick out their background designs. I really wish we had more time. I take my art vert seriously. Now coding was a bit challenging. Dr. Lee stated the we must follow the coding rules. Some of us were getting lost. It reminded me of the 7th graders. We did not follow the rules very well.

GAETI Reunion

Today was the start of an awesome week for GAETI participants. It was a combination of participants from the 2014 to 2017 institutes. I was one of the lucky ones because I am a member of the first GAETI workshop. It was so good to see Floraline, Collins, and Tony. I wished they all would have came back. That was the best workshop of my teaching career. Also, teachers from West Oktibbeha County High school are here. We had some catching up to do. Mrs. Angela is still loud and fun but I love her so dearly. I got a glimps of Dr. Lee. I can't wait to see what he has in store for us tomorrow. Today's presenters did a great job. The Funchess's from Yazoo jazzed us up with some wonderful musical strategies and Mr. Weir brought it home with some practical strategies I think could benefit my school and district greatly. Our schools has been doing the same thing for the past five years and it is not working. I think he could very change some things for us. Day one down, four mo
